Katy Perry, Staples and DonorsChoose.org Unveil Public Service Announcement to Celebrate and Support Teachers Nationwide
According to the Education Market Association, an estimated 99.5% of all public school teachers use their own money to equip their classrooms – research suggests it's frequently at a cost of more than $400 per year.
Driven by this insight, Staples and Katy Perry have collaborated on a public service announcement (PSA) to help celebrate and support teachers and classrooms nationwide by raising awareness of this need and to inspire the public to donate in Staples' stores or online.
The PSA is now available to air nationwide. Produced by the renowned RSA Films and directed by frequent Katy Perry collaborator Aya Tanimura, the PSA is a playful and colorful stop-motion animation. Katy Perry is awed as an imaginary doodle world suddenly comes to life, while she shares a personal anecdote from her time as a 4th grader in music class, designing her own vision board to represent her dreams. Perry goes on to talk about the harsh reality that many teachers face on a daily basis, having to spend their own money to provide adequate supplies and equipment to students.
The PSA also highlights Staples' recent $1 million donation to DonorsChoose.org – a charity that has funded more than 700,000 classroom projects for teachers and has positively affected more than 18 million students across the country – and encourages viewers to make their own donations by visiting a local Staples store or StaplesForStudents.org.
PSA spots include:
- 60, 30 and 15 second TV spots
- 60 and 30 second radio spots
- Full page, ½ page and ⅓ page print ads
