Did you know that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects nearly 32 million Americans, yet only half have been diagnosed?
COPD, which includes conditions like emphysema and chronic bronchitis, can cause persistent coughing, fatigue, and shortness of breath. It’s the 6th leading cause of death and the 4th leading cause of disability in the U.S., yet many people don’t realize they’re at risk.
Though smoking is a leading cause of COPD, 25% of those with the disease have never smoked. Other factors, such as exposure to air pollutants, wildfire smoke, occupational hazards, and even genetic predisposition, can also increase risk.
Early diagnosis and proper care can make a significant difference, helping people manage symptoms and live better for many years.
The new PSA from the COPD Foundation raises awareness of COPD, its risk factors, and the importance of early detection. It encourages people to know the signs, talk to their doctor, and seek resources for better lung health.
By airing this PSA, you’ll be helping to improve awareness of COPD and support individuals in breathing easier and living longer.
